How to block advertisements in smartphone apps

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

Did you know you can block advertisements from appearing in all of your Android and iPhone apps, easily and all at once? This includes ads in your favorite browser such as Chrome, Edge or Safari. That means, you can block website ads and app ads at the same time.

This can all be done safely and easily by changing your smartphone's DNS provider to one that filters ads and trackers. There are a few public DNS providers that offer ad and tracker filtering. However, I suggest AdGuard DNS for their long reputation, ease of use, and optional customization options.

Follow the steps below for your device to change the DNS provider to AdGuard DNS.

Android

  • Open Settings > Network & Internet

  • Tap Advanced > Private DNS

  • Choose 'Private DNS provider hostname'. Enter the following server information:

dns.adguard-dns.com

  • Tap Save

iPhone/iPad

  • Download the default configuration profile from this page using your phone https://tinyurl.com/5d97k2zz

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone/iPad > Tap Profile Downloaded

  • Select 'Install' in the top right corner and follow the on-screen instructions

Once you change the DNS provider to AdGuard DNS using one of the methods above, you'll instantly block advertisements from appearing in all of your apps and websites. It's that easy!
