Free alternative apps to Spotify for your smartphone

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

A Spotify subscription can be great, however, it can also be expensive. Not everyone can afford a $9.99 monthly subscription to access their favorite songs and albums. Fortunately, there are a few free alternative options that exist, and they can be downloaded right from the Play Store or app store.

TREBEL MUSIC - Available for Android & iPhone

While the TREBEL app is ad supported, they promise never to interrupt your music. With millions of songs available to download, the TREBEL app is a great choice for those that can't afford or don't want to pay for a Spotify subscription.

Features:

  • Download millions of songs for offline use (no network required to listen)

  • Ads don't interrupt music

  • Music on-demand (choose the song you want to play)

  • Create playlists

  • Legal and virus free

  • Song Identification

  • Lyrics display

  • Built in audio and video player

Limitations:

  • Limited song library compared to Spotify (15 million vs 80 million)

  • Earn download credits by watching advertisements

  • No streaming option (you must download mp3's)

  • No web access (smartphones and tablets only)

How to download:

Audiomack - Available for Android & iPhone

Another great free alternative to Spotify is the Audiomack app. This app is also supported by advertisements and allows you to choose the song you want to play. Listening is unlimited, however, you don't have to earn credits to listen to and download tracks. Both streaming and the ability to download songs for offline use are available.

Features:

  • Download or stream unlimited full tracks & mixtapes

  • Create unlimited playlists

  • Music on-demand (choose the song that you want to play)

  • Built in audio player for local song files

  • Playlists created by experts (browse by mood, genre, etc...)

  • Legal and virus free

Limitations:

  • Limited song library compared to Spotify and TREBEL (10 million tracks)

  • Only mostly newer artists

  • Ad supported

How to download:

While these free alternatives aren't perfect, they offer a great way to download and listen to music legally, and without paying for a subscription. If you're looking for a cheaper, paid alternative to Spotify, I suggest subscribing to the Pandora Plus plan. For only $4.99 a month, you can search and choose the song you want to hear on-demand. Similar to TREBEL and Audiomack, Pandora Plus is ad supported. However, you'll have access to their massive 50 million song library. You can sign up for a free 30-day trial of Pandora Plus on this page: https://www.pandora.com/upgrade/plus
